Sassy Parents About Us

Collages3 1 225x300 Sassy Parents About Us

Ever since I became pregnant in 2005 and joined my first pregnancy/parenting website, I wanted to have my own. I felt restricted by the all the site and forum rules on existing sites.

It was frustrating that I had to keep my true opinion to myself on matters that I felt passionate about as it does not suit me as a person or a parent.

I waited all through my childhood to grow up and have my say, my way, without an adult telling me off.  So, here I am, with my own self indulgence that I dedicate to my greatest achievements, MicroMe and MissyMe.

If you have a genuine view on parenting, families, relationships, children or anything that affects the community in general that you’d like to share contact us.

I’m Luisa Foliaki; sassylu and I am often known online as llmunchkin; Proud Mumma of MircoMe & MissyMe.  I am a member of some great parenting websites; Essential Baby, Bub Hub, Huggies and Belly Belly.  Some I joined when I was pregnant in 2005 and left, then recently rejoined. My main reason for using some of the sites less often, is the difficulty I have navigating around them and making posts. With so many wonderful parenting websites and forums online, you may ask; Sassy Parents, why would we need another?

While these sites are great to be a part ofI am always mindful of site administrators and moderators who regulate what I write with various rules and regulations.  I have a business based on administration and resent being administrated in my leisure time.  I think moderate is akin to being around medium, or even worse; average.  Being regulated is ok if you want uniform regular points of view; I don’t want to be regular, nor a regular point of view.  As  the rules on other sites increased, I branched out into the world wide web with the following blogs:

Responsible Role Models Wish I Said It – Sassy Parent Global Guardians Parenting llmunchkin – Squidoo

A new seed was sown when I spoke to WSO coaches from ClickThruiQ, Eddy Croft and Josh Denning.  They suggested that I create my own website and create my own niche for an area I feel isn’t currently being catered for.  That area is for parents to have freedom of expression; tell it how it is, how it was and how it should be without threat of being ostracised or tossed off a website, (which has happened LOL).  Sassy Parents has now been born and it is where you can let your fingertips run free and be allowed to say things like, “why wasn’t the mother of that child; who was abducted when she left him in the car, charged with negligence?” Without experiencing a ton of misguided sympathy for stupid behaviour instead of demands for sensible explanations.

I invite honest feedback and will only exclude obvious spam, explicit sexual language, overuse of profanity, unwarranted personal attacks or breach of copyright. Please complete the Sassy Parents Survey if you haven’t already; I will post the results over the next few weeks.  Feel free to add topics or ideas that you would like to see on the site in the comments section below, or email me at sassyparents@bizsassy.com if you’d prefer.  Thank you for visiting ‘my new baby.’

Ever since I became pregnant in 2005 and joined my first pregnancy/parenting website, I thought it would be cool to have my own.  Mainly because I didn’t want to feel restricted by the rules of others and have to keep my true opinion to myself on matters that I felt passionate about. I waited all through my childhood to grow up and have my say, my way…  So, here I am, with my own self indulgence that I dedicate to my greatest achievements, MicroMe and MissyMe.

MicroMe & MissyMe May 2010

The biggest stumbling block for me was worrying about not being an expert on all things parenting related, website design and writing. There are many experts in life; medical experts, teaching experts, scientific experts… You name it, if there is a field for it. There is most likely a certificate, diploma, degree or doctorate in any field you can name and those who just claim to be an expert in everything under the sun because they can.

Then it dawned on me; I have two very healthy, happy, strong children and I am their parent, so I am an expert on them and myself.  You are an expert on you and your own children too and use your own judgment along with medical and educational experts to decide what is best for your children and your family.

I truly believe that while there are many avenues we can pursue as parents to get advice to help us with our children; the true answers lie within us.  Sometimes it is hard to find them, however if you are open, honest and trust yourself, you will surprise yourself and learn to trust your own instincts more.

Don’t be afraid of making mistakes, any action on behalf of your children is better than no action and remember, experts in all fields make mistakes too… Trust in you and believe in you; your children do.

Part of putting Sassy Parents together as a site is selecting an appropriate theme.  This is being posted on word press direct and I have not located a theme that I am 100% happy with at this stage.   The perils of parenting; whether it be children or websites that are your baby, we have those moments of doubt thanks to advice from others.

Thanks in advance

I’ve been deleted from Minti for daring to express my opinion regarding the shoddy treatment of another long term member.   At least that is what I think it was, one minute I was writing ‘shame on you’ to one of the site founders on a since deleted blog; the next moment I couldn’t log in.  The taste of Minti which I joined in 2007 had become stale, it was the members that kept it fresh.  Enjoy your meal my Minti site member friends and happy menu planning, site owners; I’m going to have my cake and eat it, without your diet of indigestible saccharin.  I am an adult and I reserve the right to have my say, my way… As a child, that is the only reason I wanted to grow up.

Little Girl Sassy Parents About Us

This little girl…

Everything happens for a reason I think and for me, it was the incentive that I required to get back to Sassy Parents.  I am working on the lack of technical knowledge that stopped me from creating content in the manner I wanted to.  Now I am very pleased and proud to say that I have not only managed to create new pages, I can make individual posts on them thanks to Aral Balkan’s plug in. I invite anyone who is interested to submit ideas and content to me via the contact us page, or by emailing sassyparents@bizsassy.com.

So what’s news with Sassy Parents?  Fresh new pages across the top menu bar ready and waiting for content; some with new posts already, check them out.  Christmas  is sneaking up on us again, I will be posting some great parenting gift ideas, featuring original creations from fabulous friends of mine who you can read more about in parenting entrepreneurs.  I’ll also post great ideas for other products and services you can purchase online.  Guest contributors will be helping me out so that you don’t get bored by me and I welcome your input as well.

I’m so excited, our little family is growing… My eldest nephew Dan and his gorgeous girlfriend Loren are having a baby girl early next year.  I am not sure why I am so excited about it, after all, I will be a great-aunt, so it dates me somewhat and my beautiful younger sister is a bit stunned about being a grandmother at 36.  I am willing to bet she is over the moon when she sees the latest addition to our clan, as the baby will override any concerns in that area.

AcklinFoliakiGirls Sassy Parents About Us

Me, Mum, my sister and my two lovely nieces – lots of love.

This baby is already so well loved, as are the other two babies that will be born to our cousins Anna and Julie in January; if only all babies could be brought into a world full of love…  I heard on the Oprah show the other day, that at one time they never thought they’d abolish slavery, yet they did, so it can happen.  Unfortunately slavery is still rampant throughout the world today; this interactive map on Free The Slaves website highlights the fact that “although slavery is not legal anywhere, it happens everywhere.” How do I digress from the joy of a baby girl coming into the world to slavery which is such an unsavoury topic that I find myself shunned at dinner parties?

I know that this baby girl will be born into a welcoming world and she will be cherished and loved by her entire family.  Her beautiful young mother will receive love and support from her family and friends to ensure that this experience is as wonderful as it should be… Yet for so many women around the world, pregnancy and childbirth are dangerous and deadly.  Women are raped, enslaved and simply disappear off the face of the earth without a trace.  Babies are born into a world of slavery, sexual depravity and danger… Could you imagine such a life for your precious little beings?

So why does the birth of ‘just another girl’ make me so excited while so many females suffer?  With the birth of each new girl in the world, comes the opportunity to enlighten another caring soul about the plight of her sisters in less fortunate areas of our globe.  Enlightened women are empowered women; whilst women outrank men in numbers, we are still effectively oppressed and ruled by men in many countries.  The Spice Girls had it right back in the 80′s, girl power is what it’s about.  With education and organisation we can create the world we want to live in; a world where all new life, male or female is treasured and revered for the miracle it truly is.

PS:  For the record, I am not a feminist, however I do believe in equality and I also think that by emancipating the women of the world, we free men to live a happier life as well… Women are their mothers, sisters, wives, girlfriends and friends, if women are free and happy, so are men.  The family unit is of far more value than the community accords it at this time… The time for change is now.

PPS:  One of my best friends has just reminded me that feminists were after equality… So, I guess I am a feminist after all; what is a day without learning?  Thanks Kat icon smile Sassy Parents About Us

Since I am no longer a member of that site, I have requested removal of my advice posts, (about 30 or so from memory, here is an example) and photographs.  After sending a request to Minti via their ‘contact us’ page a week ago, I have still had no response.  (Not surprising, as I was advised by other former members that they had suffered the same fate).

They still have the articles posted by ‘anonymous author’ which is misleading in itself, as I am not remotely anonymous and those are my original advice posts.  They have removed the photographs from the posts as you can see on this article I wrote about honesty and integrity; perhaps they should have read it when they were making those changes.

Good manners would dictate that it was reasonable to reply by now.  Good business practice would dictate that it would have been prudent to respond sooner.  Good ethics would dictate that there would be no issue removing work written by other people when they request it.  I used to have respect for the concept of this site, however that fresh minti taste has gone stale.
